Last week, twelve Audlem Stalwarts , of maturing age, decided to walk the Thames Path from Hampton Court Palace in the West to the Thames Barrier in the East – some 46 miles over a four day period (actually three days plus two half days.)

The Thames Path was declared the second best walk in the world by the Lonely Planet in 2013, above Sidney, Australia and Mexico.

The sights of London from the Thames path made walking a pleasure, achieving 10-12 miles per day at a pace of ~3mph. Not too bad for Crinklies!

Staying in central London enabled easy access from the trains to the start and finish
of the Day and being next to the London Eye brought wonderful views of London in the Spring.

The walk was particularly impressive for one of our members who was suffering from a painful knee awaiting replacement, and it seems the cure for ladies suffering from blisters on the feet is a visit to the shops in Oxford Street!

The route of the walk, the transport, accommodation, meals and refreshments and entertainment on the London Eye and musical "Jersey Boys' was some twelve months in the planning – but a very successful event it was.

Henceforth the group is to be known as the 46ers.

PS – Whilst some of our members would have liked to have supported our new MP in her maiden speech, on balance the walk came first!
