On Saturday May 17th the 1st XI lost for the second time in 7 days on the road, after Knutsford continued their impressive start to the season with a 48-run victory. Skipper Richard Wilson won the toss and chose to bowl after a pitch inspection.

Knutsford made a steady start but were restricted largely to singles and twos on the large outfield due to tight bowling from Stu Elkes and Callum McIlveen. John Sheldon was the main aggressor piercing the infield with several well timed cover drives.

He and Adam Clayton took the score to 25 before Clayton was bowled by McIlveen. It quickly became apparent Knutsford's middle order weren't there to hang around and run rate climbed, but it also meant wickets fell at regular intervals.

Neil Humphries' guile and clever changes of pace yielded his second 5-wicket haul of the season and left the home team reeling at 85 for 7. However, the tail wagged and Knutsford managed to add 40 for the 8th wicket, edging their way to a competitive total on a slow wicket, scoring 132 all out.

Humphries final figures were 5 for 35. Simon Swift and McIlveen chipped in with 3 for 49 and 2 for 27 respectively.

Audlem's reply got off to the worst possible start when Stu Stanway was bowled by Clayton in the first over. Andy Rothwell continued to be aggressive but this proved to be his downfall as he was caught at mid-off for 8. Kemal Toraman and Wilson quickly followed to leave the visitors in serious trouble at 18 for 4.

Toby Banfield and Tom Kural attempted to steady the ship with the latter looking particularly strong through mid-wicket, before Clayton outfoxed him with a slower ball trapping him lbw for 11.

When Dave Morris and McIlveen were out cheaply, Audlem were struggling on 42 for 8. Humphries (21) and Swift (12 not out) rallied with some quick runs but they were left with too much to do and in the end the visitors were skittled for 84.

Knutsford took 25 points to stay top of Division 2 and Audlem 6 to remain third.

Last Saturday's match against Styal was a washout. On Saturday the 1st XI travel to Chester to play fifth-place Westminster Park.
