The reason there's a dip at the old railway bridge at Swanbach is when the railway company constructed the railway they would have dug the road out to give height to the bridge instead of raising miles of track. Now there's no railway or bridge why not fill the dip back in to it's original level?

you are absolutely right Bruce. only one week after the supposed "fixing the issue" at Swanbatch the road flooded again.

I complained to the council and they sent me a letter stating they didnt consider it dangerous!! it is an utter joke. i have made so many complaints over the years but still no action. i have in the past had to go out in my hi-vis to slow the traffic down myself in torrential rain and some chose not to take my visual warning and then were shocked to find their reg plate floating in the water.

I don't care what the council say, it is dangerous and they need to fix it, whether that be sorting the drains out or heightening the road, but at least put a visual on the bridge wall of the depth.

Does anyone know what work CE Highways actually did recently in attempts to resolve the recurrent flooding at these two locations?
Does putting out Flood signs absolve CE Council from legal responsibility for any damage to vehicle engines etc from their failure to resolve the drainage problems over a period of several years?
The current rainfall is obviously exceptional but it's well known that it does not take much rain to cause flooding at Swanbach and Corbrook.

I cannot believe it. they closed the road on Green lane where it is flooded to stop any more vehicles getting stranded and there is now a coach full of passengers stranded. he will have had to move the road closed sign to get to it and now his passengers are waiting for lifts to finally get home. the only vehicles getting through this flood are tractors.

No surprise to see all the usual floods again today. I would like to know how much money the wonderful Council wasted this time having spent weeks recently attending to the Corbrook and Swanbach dips with teams of workers, diggers, trucks a plenty, and the obligatory temporary traffic lights, only to make not one jot of difference. This pitiful shower couldn't fix a hole in a bucket properly and if they didn't continue to squander vast amounts of money so ineffectively just maybe we wouldn't have to endure continual extra charges like the brown bin fiasco and the proposed car parking charges, I despair of them.

New footbridge in bottom corner of turnpike field , over the swampy bit, has broken up into sections and floated away.

I have been in touch with Rachel Bailey and she has confirmed United Utilities will not shut the Woore Road for roadworks this evening as planned and it will remain open whilst other routes out of the village are closed due to flooding.

Further to the suggestion by Judy and others for A Song for Audlem, perhaps it could be extended to a concept album in view of recent events. Something similar to Flanders and Swan's "The Slow Train" with the line "the sleepers sleep at Audlem" could change to The Slow Drain. The gulleys gush at Audlem

This village for parking has become a joke.

I work full time within the village and now am struggling to find anywhere to park resulting me parking on a residential side road.

The main car park is always full and main roads have time limits where are we to park?

If I am struggling at 8:30am then what about customers/passing trade?

Then I see a DAFT idea of charging for the car park?!?! Are we truly trying to drive away business to the local area.

Sorry for the rant but hopefully it is not just me feeling this frustration.

I am surprised that there is no mention in the news section of the new charges for garden waste collection by Cheshire East Council of £56 per year. I imagine that this will encourage residents to consider covering green spaces with tarmac, concrete, stones, etc. At a time when we are supposed to be moving towards Net Zero and caring for the planet, this seems like an odd decision to make by councillors elected by the tax-paying public. Or will this simply encourage people to dump their garden waste?

In reply to D. M's post Problem definitely not solved. He might have a very different view if he lived in Cheshire Street, as I, and my neighbours do, and had to endure the daily stand off's between lorries, farm vehicles, milk tankers and cars coming out of the village being confronted by vehicles coming into the village and not being able to see them until the are well past the butchers, creation a situation where vehicles coming from the village are driving onto the footpath to try to squeeze past each other creating a situation where anyone walking or pushing a pushchair on the footpath on the Public hall side of the road is taking their lives in their hands at most times in the day.
I would agree something needs to be done before someone gets killed.
The only people that have a legitimate reason for parking there during the day, as opposed the the public car park opposite are the Butcher and the resident of Fox Cottage, next door, so perhaps a permit holder parking / Blue Badge Holder parking zone should be created leaving parking from Alderlyme court to Boots in place. This would provide clear vision for traffic coming into the village and slowing it down before it reached the Square

My sister in law tells me that in their village the sustainability representative collects these and takes them to Superdrug in Stafford. I have previously asked if anyone would be willing to take them to Chester or Hanley but no response. Trying again, large volume but not heavy. I have been saving ours for months now. Any help out there?

Surely it's better to enforce the existing parking restrictions, which are totally ignored by many people. However, as the cost of doing that manually would probably be excessive could cameras be used? Be interesting to cost that out, but as most of the illegal parkers probably live close by the subsequent complaints would be interesting!

Some years ago yellow no parking lines were painted along Cheshire St. Residents considered they preferred to keep their right to park and keep it as a traffic calming device. I seem to remember cheers as the lines were removed!

interestingly, the suggestion of no parking on Cheshire Street was tried, albeit very briefly in the 1970s. Unfortunately this caused even more mayhem with drivers (yes. even back in those days !) approaching the junction with such speed, that it soon became clear very quickly, that the parked cars on Cheshire Street were serving the purpose of slowing the traffic. Needless to say it did not last long !

I stay in the left lane with my right indicator on until past the entry at 9 o clock the indicate left for Drayton. Only use the right lane when heading for A41

Without any notification to passengers D & G have changed the bus timetable. Please note that the 72 bus at 9.26 to Nantwich via Hankelow. is now 9.21. This means that this is no longer a free bus pass journey instead it will cost £1-80 with a bus pass. Other times do not seem to have changed although the phone enquiry desk gave a different return time of 12noon instead of 11.45 even though the website said 11.45 and the bus duly returned a 11.45! The new times n means the bus clashes with the bus at 9.22 going to Wrenbury adding to the chaos in the centre of the village with the road works. Clever ain't it!

This village has become accustom to regular gridlocks, heavy traffic and aggressive drivers.

Can I ask why something as simple as Stopping cars from parking outside the shops on Cheshire street not been enforced?

This would allow cars to flow freely over two lanes and defiantly help towards these issues.

After having an accident on a roundabout ( Cheerbrook; although, ironically, there wasn't much 'cheering' going on, especially from me) some years ago, I asked a couple of policemen a few weeks after the event, about roundabouts, and they said if your unsure which lane to take, always take the left lane on exiting. That's what I do at the roundabout you've mentioned. I always signal my intentions. A bit of a tricky one is that roundabout though as once I tried to go straight across (roughly 12. o'clock) and got cut up. I suppose you could say I got cut up by someone doing what I usually do! As I say, it's a bit of a tricky one. Be interesting to see what other people do there though. ;-)
