Audlem Parish Council on Whitchurch Road Pavement

24th June 2026 @ 9:36am

The Parish Council has been informed that the path from Hollybank to Copthorne Drive is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate due to overgrown hedges and debris. This has been reported to Cheshire East and a Highways Officer has served hedge and tree notices on several of the adjacent properties, requesting that they cut back the vegetation where it is encroaching into the footway. The debris along the footway has also been reported directly to the street cleansing team for their attention.

The local Highways officer will re-visit and monitor the site.

The Parish Council Lengthsman empties the bins in the village and has had an increase in hours to help keep the village centre tidy. However, clearing roads and paths, cutting hedges, and gully cleaning is the responsibility of Cheshire East Council, so if anyone comes across a hedge that needs cutting back, or any other highways issues, please use the Cheshire East TrACE system to report this at https://trace.cheshireeast.gov.uk/

For help and support is using TrACE please see this link on the Parish Council website: https://www.audlemparishcouncil.gov.uk/community/audlem-parish-council-21011/highways/

The Parish Council is grateful to residents for reaching out and reporting any concerns. If you have any further queries regarding any issues in the village please contact the Parish Clerk at clerk@audlemparishcouncil.gov.uk

The encroaching vegetation is the responsibility of the landowner. You will find the same all around the area where neglectful householders refuse to keep their hedges within their own residential boundary, thus causing inconvenience, expense, and even danger for users of the public highway.

Rose Shepherd on Driving School

Can anyone recommend a learner driver school, for a 17 year old youth.

Jean Stainthorpe on Whitchurch Road Pavement

22nd June 2026 @ 4:19pm

The pavement is very narrow, covered in debris and has overhanging vegetation such that it is treacherous to use it.
Furthermore the street lights are obscured by trees, especially now in the leaf growing season so that in the dark most of it is unlit.
It is risky to step out into the road as it is a busy A road with limited vision.
I have reported these issues on Fix My Street and to the Parish Council so we can but hope!

Billy Gibbons on Chimney Sweep

20th June 2026 @ 6:44am

Hello Nick. I did reply on here to your first request and recommended a chap from Nantwich called Nick Smith but I didn't have his number. I have since found out that Nick no longer is in the business. A friend told me about EW Chimney Services from Nantwich. 01270 627319 but I personally haven't used them as yet.

Who is responsible for sweeping the very narrow pavement from Hollybank to Copthorne? Cheshire East or Parish Council. No response from later.

Peter Morgan on Paul Collis-Smith

17th June 2026 @ 1:01pm

As ever, Trooping of the Colour was a spectacular event last Saturday and it has been extra special these last few years to see our local lad, Paul Collis-Smith conducting the Household Cavalry Band whilst navigating his horse using only his knees. Many congratulations Paul on your promotion to Lt Colonel and command of the massed bands in London. Of course, knowing the musical talents of your mother Jenny and the organizational capabilities of your father, Mark (those scout camp expeditions will never be forgotten) it comes as little surprise to those who have lived in the village for the last half century or so, that Paul has achieved so much. But not forgetting the talents of his brother and sisters who have also made a positive contribution to society, it’s just that the uniform appealed to Paul and the horse does all the walking!

David Pudney on Woodpeckers

They had been coming to our garden numerous times a day over the last few weeks, one time we had three of them at once. I haven't seen them for a couple of days now....... I guess my B&M fatballs are no longer good enough.

Love the photos. The way to recognise them is that the youngsters (this year's fledglings) have the red cap on top of their head. The adult males are brightly coloured and have a red spot on the back of their head and the adult females have the same colouring as the males but somewhat duller and no red spot on their heads. We always lo ok forward to this time of year when wehave a regular brood with up to 5 young on good years.

I agree Roy, Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are lovely birds, however, I think the picture you've submitted is of one of this years youngsters.

Male Greater Spotted Woodpeckers have a crimson spot on the back of the head, whereas juveniles have the red spot on the crown along with duller white plumage.

I wonder if Tits take exception to them as they will predate on their youngsters I believe.
