This Wednesday 20th July will be the final session of Youth Club until the new term in September, so we're having a 'do'.

Having trawled the finest minds this side of Buerton for a catchy title we gave up and settled for 'Bangers & Splash'.

I was warned by my own early teen that the term 'Bangers' would raise a titter or two, and so it did. Who do they think they are? Schoolboys? Ahh, yes, I suppose they are so fair dos.

So, the 'splash' bit refers to the fact that we will be messing about with as much water as we possibly can in a two hour period.

That means water pistols, squeezy bottles, water bombs, generally watery waterness and the (hopefully) piece de resistance, the patented youth club water slide, complete with soap assisted velocity and inflatables (translated that means a sheet of surplus visqueen, with a 60ft run out, anchored on the slope by the youth shelter, industrial amounts of cheap washing up liquid and a garden hose – but don't tell anyone).

Added to all this liquid magnificence is a premium grade barbecue, with burgers and sausage lovingly chargrilled by the divine Barry, ably assisted by the gorgeous Carol. Big thanks to Oxtail & Trotter for doing us a right good deal again this year- we don't serve up any old rubbish you know.

Not only are we celebrating the end of term and the start of the long holiday, we are also inviting a new wave of youth clubbers to join us for the evening. Mrs Jewitt at Audlem Primary School has been a top Headteacher and supported us without hesitation, making sure that all the outgoing Y6 students received their invitation last week. We are looking forward to seeing lots of new faces that we hope we will see again every week starting from September.

It has been a fantastic first year for Audlem Youth Club. We have seen our numbers steadily grow so that we now regularly host up to 24 young people each week. With the new Y6 intake on its way through we expect to see that figure increase again before the year turns.

We have a brilliant and dedicated team of volunteers which has also grown in size and diversity as the year has progressed- we are now a properly eclectic bunch! We are Kate,Tony, Monique, Jane, Carol, Gin ,Samara, Toby and Finn. There is always room for more, especially of the bloke variety, as Tony keeps reminding everyone!

All volunteers have to undergo a DBS check and we ensure that we have at least three volunteers on duty at every session. In fact this Wednesday there will be all nine of us on duty.

Youth Club's move to the Public Hall from the Baptist Chapel earlier this year coincided with the lighter nights and finer weather. This has meant that most weeks, of late, we have become tuck shop keepers and juice providers, alongside the odd game of rounders and Gin-the-card-sharp's Card School on rainy evenings (high rollers only).

Now though, as we look towards planning the Autumn's activities, expect to see the return of old favourites such as Movie Nights, Bingo, Chocolate Fountain (aggghhh) and bucket loads of new ones'Bake Off anyone?

Bangers & Splash is on Wednesday 20th July at Audlem Public Hall and Park, 7.15pm- 9pm. Entrance fee is the usual £1 Youth Club subs with all barbie food, drinks and activities included in the price. Wear your oldest clothes and prepare to confound even a Persil white wash!
