Much has happened in the land of Youth Club since our last update almost three weeks ago. A bit like Lucy Pevensie and her wardrobe but in reverse, it felt like a seconds absence, turns out it was nearly 21 sleeps.

There is some reporting to do, a spot of announcing and quite a large amount of celebrating.

In no particular order the big news of the month is that we've only gone and won the flipping lottery! Yes, in a little over a years time Youth Club will be able to settle down into a nice big room in a lovely new building.

We have exciting plans for our space that will make it properly the coolest place to hangout without using public transport first. Sofa's, beanbags, Xbox, Pool, Sounds, Graffiti Wall, food, more kit than you can shake a shaky thing at – we are talking not just big, we are talking epic.

Thanks to the Big Lottery award all of this will at last be a reality. A couple of weeks ago we gathered some reactions from our young supporters:

  • Jay "It'll be great, I'm really looking forward to it."
  • Lily " There's never been anything like it in Audlem before. It will be really good. I love Wednesday nights. When it's Monday I always wish it was Wednesday. I wish it was Wednesday every night!'

In the wake of such good news our numbers continue to grow, last week we welcomed a record 25 young people to the Wednesday session.

In anticipation of this weekend's Music Festival we were delighted to welcome Poet, Emma Pursehouse to our session on the 11th May. Emma inspired some to get up and recite their favourite poems or even a blast of high energy rap-in-the-making. Emma's own pieces were carefully chosen and skilfully delivered to the gathering, which, lets face it, would challenge even Russell Crowe trying to have his vengeance (only joking Youthlets).

Emma issued an open invitation for young people to come and perform their own work at special events over the festival weekend, or even to have a professional artist perform it on their behalf, and one or two took the information away with them. It was a good evening and we sincerely thank Emma for giving so generously of her time.

Whilst on the subject of this weekend it is important that you all know that Youth Club will be on the field for Carnival Bank Holiday Monday with a fundraising stand. Whoa there, we don't expect something for nothing, oh no, you get the chance to kick a large ball into a small hole for money that you then give to us- simples.

If that doesn't float your boat then how about our incredible, show stopping raffle? I do not lie- we have the chance of a teen supercar driving experience up for grabs for the price of a humble cloakroom ticket. You can buy your ticket whilst indulging in some kicking therapy with our football challenge or you might spot a slightly smaller than average human (got to be careful here, I'm only 5ft so most of them are actually taller than me) person with a bucket encouraging you to do so at intervals throughout the day. Either way, it's got to be worth a punt.

Hope to see you there and always happy to have a chat about what we're up to, especially if you feel the urge to become a volunteer!

Finally, last week there were some clandestine goings on at Youth Club. I'm not at liberty to elaborate so have attached a cryptic picture for you to muse on. All will be revealed by the weekend if you keep your eyes peeled.

This Wednesday 24th May is our last session before the half term break and we hope to see everyone again when we return on Wednesday 1st June.

Youth Club meets every Wednesday, 7.15pm- 9pm, at Audlem Public Hall. £1 weekly subs, no regular commitment necessary. Year 7 and above welcome.
