The History Society is very grateful to David and Elizabeth Huntbach for allowing us to use their home last Thursday as a central meeting place and for looking after us so well.

We had a busy session with about a dozen contributors of items ranging from a kilt of the Gordon Highlanders, a cigarette case with a bullet hole through, a match case, medals and 'dead mens pennies', a citation signed by Winston Churchill as Secretary of State, service records, trench art objects made from shell cases, photographs, postcards and messages home and books of contemporary cartoons and economic recipes.

Megan McKelvey seems to be the person with the most local ancestors who served – at least 5 of them!

Most of the items were photographed so that if we are unable to see them in the flesh at public meetings to be held in September and November, at least they have been recorded.

Anyone who was not able to attend the meeting but would like to contribute items or stories should contact Celia Bloor or Maureen Morgan.
