Audlem played its part in the World's biggest quiz night last night (Sunday) when over fifty quizzers gathered in the Lord Combermere for a six-round quiz which was simultaneously happening in 1500 other pubs around the country.

The questions had been sent to quiz-master, Ralph Warburton, under armed guard and conditions of absolute secrecy.

The Lord Combermere laid on its usual hospitality of chips and sandwiches to fuel the brains of the teams.

At the end of the quiz, all the answer sheets were gathered in to be sent to London – it is not yet known whether any of the Audlem teams performed well enough to qualify for a national prize, but given the low local winning scores on at least one of the rounds, it seems unlikely.

However the local prizes awarded for each round were received enthusiastically and a good time appeared to be had by all.

The resulting £120 or so is to be donated to a local charity, and in this case Ralph's choice of the APHAx project for the new Public Hall Annexe seemed to be a popular choice.
