The History Society hopes that everyone will look out and dust off any family items from the years 1914 to about 1922 that they have, including photos and postcards, to share with everyone.
They do not have to have a local connection but of course we will be extra interested if they do!
We are holding a get together at 7pm until 8pm on Thurs May 29th at the home of David
and Elizabeth Huntbach in Vicarage Gardens. Items can be brought along and will be photographed and recorded. Stories that go with them will be noted.
If unable to attend this meeting then a member of the History Society could visit your home with their camera. Please contact Celia Bloor 811260 or any member of the committee.
Then in September our meeting will tell about some of the things we have found happened in Audlem or to Audlem people by reading the old newspapers and researching on the web.
We hope by then we will have enough material to stage a display in the local churches around Remembrance Sunday. We have a display case which would keep small items safe but will quite understand if exhibiting a photograph is preferable.
I am attaching a list of the first Audlem men to fight – see above – possibly because they were in the regular Army already. This is taken from the newspaper of 21st November 1914.
We are interested to know if anyone recognises a relation from these names. Further
lists will be available later, the roll of honour listing pupils of the school who fought is already on the Archive-search for roll of honour!
