AUDLEM AND DISTRICT HISTORY SOCIETY

On January 18th, 2018, the Scout Hall was full everyone waiting expectantly for Roger Wickson's talk, WORKING BOATS AND BOAT PEOPLE, REMEMBERED- 1940- 1970, we were not disappointed!

It all started when the young Roger visited his Grandmother, who ran The Three Pigeon pub by the Grand Union Canal near Oxford. He spent summers watching the working boats plying their trade up and down the canal. Meeting the working boat families, the different boats, the different company's and how the boats were decorated all fascinated Roger.

His lifetime of knowledge and enthusiasm was infectious, the interesting photographs all made for a informative and enjoyable evening. Thank you Roger for sharing your wisdom of the canals, the boats and the people.

If you are interested in history and heritage next months talk is on Thursday February 15th, Crewe-The Railway Colony-1837-1853, by David Cooke. All welcome!
