Will it be a record on Sunday?

With the weather forecast improving by the hour, ASET, the Audlem Special Events Team is hoping for a record turnout of vehicles and attendees for Sunday's Festival of Transport in Audlem. While a number of the 300 or more vehicles that were entered have had to drop out, the playing field looks set to be filled to capacity. With other events the victim of the weather, it's hoped that crowds from near and far will attend.

Amongst the highlights are a 1911 Delahaye, the oldest car in the show, and a 1912 Studebaker Twenty Five, a car that successfully completed the John O'Groats to Lands End Run and a 1000 mile trial and has had a cameo part in the BBC drama 'Lilies'. A 1920 Bull Nose Oxford by Morris still drives very well.

A Skoda Fabia, the car that has turned the marque's fortunes around so much that it is now regarded as one of Europe's finest, is being raffled in support of St Luke's Cheshire Hospice – tickets will be available during the Festival.

Skywards, a real thrill will be the Spitfire display over the village with the distinctive sound of the Merlin engine by Rolls-Royce. Designed by R. J. Mitchell, the first Spitfire flew in 1938 and thousands fought and helped win the Battle of Britain in 1940. The Spitfire was the only Allied fighter in production at the outbreak of the war that was still in production at the end of the Second World War. It remained in operation until 1955 and an amazing 20,351 were built in a decade.

Be prepared from 2.00pm onwards with the flight scheduled at 2.35pm.It promises to be a great show with a fabulous range of motor cars, tractors, commercial vehicles, motorbikes, a helicopter plus the Spitfire. The parade runs from Hankelow at 12.30pm through Audlem and on to the playing field from 1.00. The vehicles will then be on display until 4.30pm. Admission is free.
