Helen Chantry writes to say: "The weather vane has been removed from its place on top of the tower due to an unhealthy lean which had developed. We are now waiting for work to be done to restore the weather vane itself, but more importantly to correct the fixings on the roof so that it is safe, secure and vertical!

"The cost for this work is £8,000 + VAT (which we hope to be able to reclaim). This is a lot of money but I understand that this should put the weather vane right for the next hundred years. While I suspect few of us will be around to appreciate its longevity, it is important that when we do any work on a Grade I listed building we do it with due respect to its historic value and for the future benefit of residents of Audlem. We are applying for grants but donations towards this work would be much appreciated. If you are a taxpayer you may like to do this giving in a tax efficient manner. Cheques should be made payable to Audlem PCC and given to Peter Ellis 15 Windmill Drive, Audlem."
