What a difference a month of democracy makes. As many readers will know, members of the webteam have been on holiday, operating AudlemOnline remotely with the wonders of WIFI.

One member has been away for just under a month in the USA, partly taking in the stunning views at Lake Tahoe (seen here), and observed on his return what a different country it seemed.

When he left there was a positive economy, one political party was relatively unstable but seemed competent, Sterling was strong and the other major party, although incompetent, was at least stable.

On his return he finds an economy with big question marks against it, all the leading Leave campaigners pulling out of the contest to be Prime Minister, Sterling has had a large fall in value and the opposition is in chaos.

All of this, of course, is self inflicted in the expectation that the longer term outlook will be better.

Arguably, however, Brexit is already having a beneficial effect on our sport.
The brave Welsh team magnificently got as far as the semi finals in Euro 2016; Andy Murray, Heather Watson, and Gordon Reid win at Wimbledon; Lewis Hamilton wins the British Grand Prix; Chris Froome has won the yellow jersey on stages 8 and 9 and British riders have won five out of nine stages of the Tour de France cycle race and an Englishman refereed the Euro 2016 final without any controversy.

What we now need is for our politicians to step up to the plate in the same way. Whether you were for Remain or Leave our country has the skills and resources for a bright future if only we can emulate our sportsmen and women.
