Weaver bridge damage

As regular readers who use the A525 to Whitchurch will know, the bridge over the Weaver as one leaves the village is often hit by vehicles, often resulting in lengthy spells when the bridge is under repair and traffic is controlled by lights.

The bridge has been hit again in recent weeks by what appear to have been large vehicles. There is damage on both sides. Out of curiosity, did anyone witness the collisions as no reports were received at the time of the damage.

There have been on-going discussions about creating a narrower roadway there and introducing a one-way priority scheme, similar to that used approaching Wybunbury village centre at the bottom of the slope after passing the school. This seems to work very well.

If a similar scheme were in place on the A525, this would have the dual advantage of being a traffic calming measure and avoiding further damage and expensive repairs to the bridge.

Let's hope this idea was raised again, perhaps at Monday's Audlem Parish Council meeting.
