Warning – thieves about!

A Hankelow resident has asked us to broadcast a warning about thieves in the area

Earlier this week a car was broken into in the small hours of the morning and a wallet and other bits were pinched. The thief (or thieves) were then able to use the contents of the wallet to extract £2000 from the victim's bank account.

Our informant readily admits that the wallet ought not to have been left in the car overnight, but, as he pointed out, the car was parked off the road, and the incident took place in the back lanes of Hankelow which one would not normally regard as a high-risk area for theft.

So the lesson to be learned is always to lock cars securely and not to leave anything of value in them overnight.

Meanwhile any suspicious activity in Hankelow, Audlem, Buerton etc should be reported to the Police on the 101 number – just because we are lucky enough to live in a rural area does not mean that we should not take sensible precautions.
