The Vote Poll asking: "Should the canal towpath to Nantwich be improved?" is producing a close fight between those wanting it to stay as it is and those opting to improve it for cyclists.

The votes cast up to last night showed 37% wanting it to stay as it is; 28% wanting it improved for walkers and 35% wanting improvements for cyclists too.

The issue is an important one for local tourism. It's argued that an improved towpath will attract walkers and cyclists from Nantwich, people who will help support local businesses in Audlem. Clearly, others feel the canal towpath should be left as it is.

Businesses will be watching the debate with interest, including the operators of the new marina a mile north of Audlem. Work is proceeding at a pace and Audlem Online plans to bring you pictures and details of the planned opening of the OverWater Marina in the near future. With berths for two hundred boats, ease of travel between the marina and Audlem will be a new factor in the debate.

If you haven't voted so far, you can have your say by clicking on the question in the Vote Poll section on the Homepage. Then select your choice from the dropdown menu and then click on 'Vote'.
