The area in front of the Co-op is suddenly full of workmen digging holes at the side of the road and the adjoining pavement – and traffic lights have been set up to control the flow of traffic in the area.

A spokesman from Cheshire East said that a new drain was being put in to take away the surface water which had been collecting in puddles in front of the Co-op and causing problems for pedestrians. He said that the lights would be in place until the job was finished, which would be at least until Monday 8th March and possibly until Tuesday 9th.

He also stated that the road surface would be temporarily patched initially but that there were plans to do a proper repair of this section and also the area in front of Tressiders (Funeral Directors) where a large pothole was recently given a temporary repair. He was unable to say when this proper repair would be, except that it would be "soon".

Queries about the work should be directed to Cheshire East's 24-hour phone line: 0845 11 333 11.
