Greville Watts for the Audlem Planning Group writes: "What makes our village special? It's a blend of all sorts of things – transport and social history, farming, vernacular architecture, geology and topography and, not least, the people who have lived here.

"Local Distinctiveness" is the phrase of the moment – the slogan of a national movement to resist the encroaching tide of bland uniformity sweeping the country.

"The Parish Plan of 2005 contained an action plan to develop a document which could give us more influence over future development. A draft document has been widely distributed in the village and is now to be the subject of an exhibition in the Scout and Guide Hall on Saturday 18 October between 11.00am and 4.00pm. This is your opportunity to support the project and help us to gain local authority approval, and a stronger voice in the planning system.

"On display will be maps (modern, 1875, 1840), photographs, children's art from St James's School on the theme of "My Village", books and documents, and a photo recognition competition. See you there!"
