Last week's Parish Council meeting discussed the up-dated Audlem Village Design Statement (VDS) which was completed in December 2011.

Three years after the first VDS was completed as part of the Parish Plan process, Audlem continues to argue that its Design Statement should be formally adopted by Cheshire East's council planners. The council went part of the way in July 2009 but has yet to fully adopt Audlem's VDS.

This is an important step as these statements can be an important consideration in any major planning application in the future.

The up-dated version of the Audlem VDS has been sent to the planners at Cheshire East. Their response, as in the past, has "left the door ajar" but without any commitment to formally adopt the Audlem document. The Parish Council say they will continue to press the borough council.

The planners say they are too busy to adopt such documents but, curiously, these and parish plans have been produced with the encouragement of, initially, Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council and more recently Cheshire East Council!

Questions might well be asked of Cheshire East such as "How many villages have actually submitted Village Design Statements that are awaiting formal adoption?"

You can read the Village Design Statement, which gives a detailed description of the area within the Audlem parish boundaries, by going onto the Audlem Parish Council part of the website and then onto the Village Design Statement page.
