Roland Hall, Chair of Community Projects Group, has written in with the following report:

"If you see surveyors in yellow jackets with their theodolites and tape measures in the Public Hall/car park/playing field areas do not be alarmed. A topographical survey is due to take place tomorrow, Tuesday 15 January, to look at the feasibility of providing a new building to improve sports and youth facilities in the village.

"One of the major proposals included in Audlem Parish Plan was to improve the sports and recreational facilities in the village. The Community Projects Group has continued to try and progress this, along with a number of other significant projects. Despite some initial setbacks in funding applications, the group has maintained their enthusiasm and are pleased to report the latest position.

"The original concept was for a sports hall, including a badminton court with changing rooms for all sports, together with storage space and specific youth facilities. This would be adjacent to the existing Public Hall. However, having taken on board the views of those involved with the youth of the village there has been a significant change of emphasis and the main aim will be to provide better accommodation and equipment for the youth, in addition to the sports facilities and storage for other groups e.g. 5As.

"A donation from the Public Hall committee and monies allocated by Borough Councillors Rachel Bailey and Allan Richardson, have enabled us to instruct architects to carry out preliminary design work which will include a survey of the site and produce sketch plans and elevations. This study will clarify the possible size and shape of the building and it is emphasised that once this initial work is complete all interested parties will be fully involved.

"Bearing in mind the cost of the project would be in the region of a million pounds, we recognise that success is not guaranteed and therefore the architects will look at how the work could be prioritised – for example to provide essential changing rooms and youth areas which can be integrated into the final design if we do obtain funding."
