Semi-Final Day

This is the Semi Final of the Crewe FA Concorde Sunday Vase Cup .

It will be played this morning (Sunday) on Audlem Playing Field, kick off at 11am sharp.

Arguably the most important match since the re-formation of Audlem FC, it is the very first Semi Final the Club has reached. AFC are up against Barrel & Tap of Nantwich whom they played at the start of the season and beat 5-2 on that occasion .

Audlem Players have stepped forward in good numbers – there are 17 who have said they are available for the game. A mix of wise heads and young speed. So AFC should be in with a good chance of a win.

This match will be played under the rules of the Crewe & District Football Association, which requires three referees as officials, with two of them as assistant referees running the lines. Referee Crump will in charge and he is a stickler for the laid down rules. Incidentally, having to pay for these officials will cost the Club much more than does a normal match.

Extra time will be played – 15 minutes each side – in the event of a draw. And then penalty kicks as per the rules of the Football Association.

If (let's say "when") AFC reaches the Final of the Cup, the match will be held on a neutral ground with tickets on sale etc. We understand that Wembley Stadium is already booked on the date in question – but perhaps Anfield might be available?.

The new facilities in the Annexe mean that some of the rules (Separate room for officials; Showers for all) can now be met – perfect timing for this important match.

The playing surface is good and well drained. Audlem FC manager (and ex-meteorologist for HM Fleet Air Arm) is confident that the promised bad weather will not prevent the match being played today..

So all in all this is serious stuff – please come and cheer on AFC for this important match.
