The September meeting of Audlem WI proved to be a very lively one with the speaker, June Corner, testing members' knowledge of yesteryear by asking all to identify useful objects in common use in days gone by.

For example, a nine-inch slim wooden candlestick-shaped hollow stick turned out to be an early stethoscope and a rather gruesome iron claw was used to stop calves stealing their mother's milk by clamping it in their nostrils.

These, along with 48 other items, were handed around with much hilarity and guesswork. A dozen visitors from other institutes in the Malbank Group joined in for the evening.

The August garden party at Christine Plume's garden was a huge success and three members are accepting Marbury WI's invitation to its fashion show on October 7th. The Edwardian Christmas lunch at Walton Hall is arranged for November 7th and 15 members are going.

Pat Smith presented the birthday flowers and the next meeting will be on Thursday, October 2nd with visitors and new members welcome.
