We, Adriana and Ralph , presented a great night for the delectation of some 120 quizzers.
Great effort in setting up the tables and chairs with my son Jonathan weighing in to help. Chip shop fully briefed as to the supper needs. A mammoth task to produce 120 portions of fish and chips , undertaken so well by Paul and his staff.
6 pm and I am there being briefed by the ever helpful Geoff Stretch on the use of the microphone. Dave Rogers of Nantwich seeking up a well stocked bar. Adriana ensuring tables all dressed with blue and yellow napkins and flags.
7pm and quizzers begin to arrive. I direct them to their numbered table . The buzz of conversation growing and the bar busy .
The night is opened with a welcome and then an immaculate one minutes silence by all of us for her majesty Queen Elizabeth .
I introduce Christopher Lee and Anna Barker who are here in the uniform they used in the Ukraine until a few weeks ago . Christopher gives us a brief picture of just what a horrid life is the norm in that so sad country.
Then we get going as I set the questions . Some quite taxing , with Yorkie Dave doing one round on blue and yellow
Suppers served from 8.30 on with volunteers acting as runners to and from the Chippy.
Olive Stretch is there selling raffle tickets to the tune of £400 !
Quiz over -- with the top scorer team of ladies being presented with the special prize.
All out and wending their way home by 1020. Volunteers stack chairs and tables away. Bags and bags of empty chip trays stowed in my car .
1100 we leave , with the knowledge that the bar has to be cleared on the Sunday and need to wash all the many glasses
Total net funds raised for the Disaster Emergency Appeal for the Ukraine is £1600 ...and the cheque will be sent to DEC asap Adding to the total of £5000 we as a community have already sent to the appeal. So now a total of £6600!
Thank you all , from Adriana and Ralph
Will plan another quiz supper night in March 2023 .
