Two arrests in Bridge raid – policeman attacked

This morning's raid on the Bridge has resulted in the arrest of two suspects. At 4.20am, two men were disturbed while raiding the Bridge Inn. The police were called and arrived on the scene within 10 minutes. One man attacked a policemen with an iron bar but was arrested after being knocked out by CS gas. The other suspect was spotted in the Paddock Lane area and a man-hunt involving eight police cars and an aeroplane was launched. He evaded immediate capture but was later arrested in Whitchurch and taken back to Audlem before going into custody in Middlewich.

A stolen car, thought to have been used by the thieves, was found in Mill Lane (Swanbach).

The police should be complimented on what appears to be a succesful conclusion to this incident. In particular, the first squad car was in the village very quickly and three more arrived soon after.
