Despite Brexit friendships endure.

The Crewe and Nantwich Twinning Association CANTA, which covers the old Borough area, is celebrating 25 years of twinning with Bischofsheim in Germany. We had a recent visit there and the Germans are coming here on Friday the 16th September and leaving on Monday the 19th.

We have hosts for most of the party but are short of a few beds. Hosts will be able to participate in the celebratory meals and events over the weekend.

Most of the Germans speak some English. If you can assist, or would like further details, please contact Peter Kay by phone (811650) or email (r.peter.k2@gmail.com). More details of CANTA and its activities can be found on our web site here.

The badge in the picture includes the Polish town of Dzierżoniów because they too have been celebrating 25 years of friendship with Bischofsheim. This twinning arrangement was an enormously powerful expression of the wish of the people of Europe to live together in peace and friendship. Dzierżoniów was originally the German town of Reichenbad. Its inhabitants were expelled in 1945 at the end of the war.

On the afternoon of July 28th Audlem is also hosting a group of Germans on an English language course run by CANTA. They will have a tour of the village and church, a trip on the Audlem Lass and a meal in the Lord Combermere.
