TWiG Hosts AWEG

In quite perfect weather, 14 members from the Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group joined members of Tattenhall Wildlife Group (TWiG) for a tour of Jubilee Wood and the flood resilience works which have been undertaken on the Mill Brook; a perfect opportunity to share understanding and good practice.

Suitably dressed, the group visited TWiG's hazel coppice initiative, the developing reedbed and Jubilee Wood's woodland glade, before walking up to China Meadow to investigate the flood defence works which have taken place with other partner groups.

With keen bird watchers, moth and butterfly experts and wildflower enthusiasts in attendance, the group were treated to some special sightings in this significant area of nature conservation.

Nesting sparrow hawks, our first orchid (Southern Marsh Orchid) and a cacophony of bird song greeted the group as they wandered along the footpaths before retiring to Alison's Kitchen for a well deserved lunch on what was fast becoming one of the hottest days of the year so far!

The group will be returning early next year to see the flood defence work in action and in the hope of spotting snipe, pink footed geese, fieldfares and redwings which spend the winter months visiting or roosting along the Mill Brook and the surrounding fields.
