Turnpike Field Usage

There has been much discussion on AOL Chatbox about the Turnpike Field and the village decision to purchase the land for village use.

We are grateful to Geoff Seddon, who was Vice Chairman of the Parish Council at the time, for his article explaining the background to the village decision to proceed with the purchase.
What seems to be clear is that:

  • The purchase of the land was to prevent further infill development.
  • As a priority, the land should be partially used for a "green" car park to help alleviate the major congestion in the centre of the village.
  • The land should also be used as a recreational / wildlife area for the village

Village surveys of 160 residents at the public meeting of February 2019 and a subsequent online survey of 338 people of what priorities should be be placed on the Turnpike Field in the Parish Council survey of March 2019 seems to have been quite clear – Top priority was the "green "car park followed by wildlife areas. Select the Turnpike Field File and online survey below the photo.

Whilst much has been seen of the abundance of wildlife on the field and its recreational attractions, there seems to have been no visibility of the progress on the "green" car park, and this is undoubtedly leading to some frustration.

It is important to recognise that most of the activities in the village are run by volunteers :
Parish Council
ADCA
ADAS
ASET
ADAPT
Charity Shop
Cricket Club
Audlem and District History Society
Music Festival
Audlem Online
Village Public Hall
W.I.
Audlem and District Probus
Audlem Voices
Audlem FC and Saints
Audlem Lass and Maughan Wheelyboat and Wheelybus
and numerous charity events
and hopefully these groups will continue their great service to the village.

Meanwhile Parish Council/ Turnpike Committee is it possible to have some tangible evidence of progress or otherwise on the Turnpike "green "park?
