Turnpike Field Footpath improvements – Phase I

The first part of this project was successfully completed on Saturday.

After we all awoke to the sound of rain, there was some initial concern that the conditions would be too wet and that the project would have to be delayed until late Spring 2023. However due to the skill and experience of Dylan Jones, the job was carried out.

Dylan very generously donated his time, skill and machinery to helping Audlem – the project would have failed without him – A big Thank You!!

We also need thank Norman Huntbach for the use of his yard for storage and delivery of materials -- it would have been impossible to deliver them directly to Turnpike!

Finally, we need to thank the people who volunteered their time to help the Turnpike Working Group (aka the Liniment and Radox set!):-

Adrian Farrow; Pete Jackson; Peter Morgan; Simon Platt; Roland and Lynn Turner.

There were additional generous offers of help but these had to be declined on the basis of having to limit how many people were there.

It was physically demanding work but there were plenty of smiling faces – and a few jokes!!

The Working Group members, Michael Cookson, Steve Elliott, Neil Goodyear, Adrian Leighton and Nigel Mottershead were very grateful for the volunteers' help.

Everyone was also Very Grateful when Jean Stainthorpe arrived with tea, coffee -- and lots of biscuits!!

Hopefully we will soon be taking delivery of the timber required to construct the wooden boardwalk over the remaining 30m boggier section of the footpath. Watch this space!!
