Tribute was paid to Irene Stockton at last night's Audlem Parish Council meeting following news of her death in a car crash in Whitchurch ten days ago.

There was a minute's silence in memory of Irene who served as an Audlem Parish Councillor from 1995 to 2011.

Councillors decided to discuss at their next meeting in June the proposal from ex-parish councillor Peter Morgan that the children's play ground next to the playing field should be named in her honour as she was heavily involved in achieving the improvements there when she was a councillor.

Irene Stockton's funeral is to be this Friday, 15th May, at 2.00pm at St James Church.

All councillors at the meeting signed the declaration of acceptance of office and the code of conduct following the uncontested election that saw nine existing councillors returning and two new councillors, Bill Consterdine (who has previously served for 32 years on the parish council but had been off the council for three years) and Ann Tilling, making up the new council.

Following the resignation of one councillor immediately after the uncontested election, there is a vacancy which will be filled by co-option. A notice will be published shortly inviting applications for the vacancy by letter saying why candidates wish to stand.
