Thornton House has now closed pending the development by Wulvern Housing of ten new affordable bungalows for older people.

So the Tuesday Day Club, which is run by Audlem & District Community Action, moved to Hankelow Chapel at the beginning of August where everyone is settling well. Two new members from Hankelow and Hatherton have already joined the Day Club and new referrals are always welcome.

The Day Club's poet in residence, Jesse, has written the following poem to celebrate Thornton House and to look to new beginnings:

Goodbye Thornton House

Oh, how sad we were today
When we said goodbye to Thornton House.
It has been a home from home
In every way
To our little band of O.A.P's

Senior Citizens we may be
But we call ourselves a family.
With years of wisdom
And a host of memories
Between us.

We have joined in our laughter
Shared our tears
Lived again our Golden Years
But no more –
Under the roof of Thornton House

Now we have a new home
Awaiting us
For how long we just don't know
But we will settle without a fuss
As one.

This new abode has been lent to us
By folks with Hearts of Gold.
We know we're not young
But not too old
To enjoy life as it comes.

We thank our friends for this new beginning
May the Lord and his companions
Help us through these difficult times
With the hope, we may, one day
Be happy under another Thornton House roof.
