Audlem Online is publishing this week a selection of six local walks, all featuring the canal at some stage. These walks have been selected for a new leaflet which is in preparation. Once printed, and it will be a low cost, one colour production, it will be distributed at Audlem's Tourist Information Centre at Williams' newsagents.

If anyone spots any problems with the directions given, please let the webteam know. For those unfamiliar with the area, the suggested walks should be used in conjunction with the Parish Paths map or OS Explorer 257, available at Williams' newsagents or the Post Office. The directions will also be published in the 'Visiting Audlem' section of Audlem Online – click Information/Visiting Audlem/Local walks.

Shropshire Union Canal/Bagley Lane

A 40 minutes to an hour's circuit

From the Square, head west along Shropshire Street, past the Methodist church to the canal where you turn left to descend to the towpath through a gate. Head up the canal past numerous locks, pass under one bridge to the second bridge where you turn sharp left immediately after the bridge to join Bagley Lane. Turn right and after some bends, turn left in to Wood Orchard Lane. After 600m turn left through a farm gate next to a cottage. After 200m the track becomes a lane. Follow it to a small lane to the left. Cross the stile to the left and head towards Audlem on the clear path which gives fine views of St James' Church and the village. At the bottom of the hill negotiate two stiles, cross the footbridge and small Green, turn left and follow the lane up to the Square.
