Audlem Online has received notification from Scottish Power that power to the village will be cut off between the hours of 9am and 4pm on Thursday 16th August in order to connect the new Muller homes to the system. Every effort will be made to reduce the period of interruption but if unexpected difficulties occur it may continue for even longer than the anticipated 7 hours.

Scottish Power recommend that people due to be affected should take note of the following hints for coping with supply interruptions:

  • Switch off electric cookers and fires and remove plugs from sockets. Leave one light on to tell you when the power supply is restored.
  • About 12 hours before the supply is due to go off, set your freezer to maximum and do not open the door of your fridge or freezer more than is essential. Remember to return to normal settings once the power comes back on.
  • Please keep an eye on elderly or infirm people living nearby and if you have an alternative method of cooking, try to ensure that they have some hot food or drink – even if it is just a flask of hot water.
  • If you are elderly or infirm try to ensure that relatives, neighbours or local welfare groups are aware of the supply interruption so that they can make arrangements for your well-being.
  • If you use a portable generator to provide a temporary supply during a supply interruption then it MUST be connected by a qualified person.
  • If you have a satellite receiver, remember to switch if off in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • If you use a computer, remember to back up your work before the published time of the supply interruption.
