Switched On and Ready!

Our Key Stage 2 children are ready to get Christmas started in style by singing on St James' Church
steps at the Big Switch On event this evening. Thanks to the Key Stage 2 staff team and children for all their hard work learning their words and songs ahead of tonight's performance – I am sure the children will do a fabulous job and I look forward to seeing many of you there!

I received two very special thank you messages in school this week, the first was from Nantwich Foodbank who wrote to school to thank us for the 125 kilos of food which were donated by our school for Harvest. They wanted to thank all of the families who kindly donated at this very busy time, as they anticipate there will be a great demand over the coming weeks and months.

We also received a certificate from Operation Christmas Child thanking us for the wonderful
collection of shoeboxes donated in support of the Global Ambassadors appeal in school for this
charity. Many thanks to Miss Danha, Mr Perry and both the School Parliament and Global
Ambassadors for arranging these two very special collections and to all of the families who donated
to the colections – the donations will make such a difference to our wider community, both locally and
globally.

We held a parents and carers' information meeting about reading, and how we can work together to
support children to become life long, fluent readers, on Monday. Feedback from those who attended
was very positive with many of the attendees commenting on how helpful it was to hear and see the
process their children experience as they learn and secure early reading skills. As part of the
meeting we shared, once again, the importance of children embedding and deepening their
understanding and skills in reading before moving on, to ensure they become fluent and confident
readers and not just good decoders of text.

We will continue to work with all parents and carers to ensure that children are not rushed through
book bands or 'levels' without gaining this breadth and depth but are allowed to explore and enjoy
each stage of their learning journey in reading; allowing for deeper understanding and application of
skills. Thank you for your support with this.

Our Green Team worked extremely hard on Monday afternoon during a visit to Audlem Conservation
area where they worked with Mrs Hayward and members of ADAS. They learnt how to coppice trees
and built an amazing bug hotel offering 5* plus accommodation for a host of insects. The might of
the team was also put to the test as they were asked to remove two shrubs with particularly
stubborn roots! Well done to Jordan, Harry C, Leo, Oscar, Bertie, Lucy and Amelie for your energies
and resilience in this task!

Diamond class treated us to a packed and very entertaining class assembly on Tuesday showcasing a
wide range of their skills and talents. It was wonderful to see how reflective and thoughtful they
were when sharing their recent work on Children's Rights, Corrie Ten Boom and Race Inequality.
They also showed their creative and persuasive talents as they encouraged their audience to learn
the gumboot dance with them – they were enthuisastic teachers! Thank you to Mrs Bird and all of
the children in Diamond class for your hard work on this.
This week's Praise Book children are:

Miss Danha's Class – Charlie Crowley
Mrs Richardson's and Mr Morrey's Class – Grace Burton
Mrs Stoker's Class – Maia Lloyd Beeston

Congratulations to our indoor athletics team who were enthusiastic and energetic participants
at last night's Sportshall Athletics Competition at Brine Leas. After some fantastic sporting
performances, our school came 4th in both the Year 3/4 and the Year 5/6 competition and I was
delighted to see how well all of the children supported each other in the wide range of events
they competed in. Many thanks to Mr Perry and the parents who supported the teams so well.
Our school football team will be in action again next Thursday after progressing to the finals of
the South Cheshire shield, following the withdrawal of their semi final opponents last week. The
