Swine Flu – info & advice

The National Flu line is now open to relieve GPs of the masses of calls
about flu, so that they can carry on with their day to day surgeries.

We request that if a person thinks they have the flu, to stay at home and call:

Patients will be asked a series of questions. If they have flu then they
will be offered the anit-virals "Tamiflu" or "Relenza" which relieve symptoms but do not cure.

Some certain high risk groups will be advised by the flu line to contact their GP for further advice. Those with the following conditions:

• Underlying serious illnesses such as: Asthma, Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease(COPD), Severe Renal Failure and Immunosuppressed patients i.e those with no spleen or on steroids for their condition.
• Those who are pregnant and Children under 1 year old.
• Those who's condition suddenly gets much worse or whose condition is still getting worse after 7 days (5 days for a child)

Patients will be given a unique reference number (this replaces the prescription) with which a "flu friend" will be able to collect the antiviral from the local Antiviral Distribution Centre at:
