Last weekend Audlem Sunday XI entertained Windsor Wesleyans, who travelled from Aigburth, Liverpool for the friendly match at the Gorse Croft.  In a high-scoring game, Wesleyans won by seven wickets.

Skipper John Eve won the toss and decided to bat.  Audlem scored 220 from the allotted 40 overs with a major contribution from Paddy Leese, who was not out 73.  He was assisted by a later order knock of 46 from Ben Mogg.

Four other players got to double figures and young Matthew Day made his debut.  It is always good to see youngsters coming along, hopefully this will be the first of many matches for him.  We also welcome young Luke Steven to the ranks and wish him well for a good future with the club.

In their reply Wesleyans’ openers put on 162 for the first wicket, with Tim Kenward scoring an unbeaten 105 to put the visitors in control.  Despite using seven different bowlers, the only one to achieve success was Paul Thorburn, who took all three of the wickets to fall.  Wesleyans proved to be too strong and achieved their target with three overs to spare.

The match was played in the correct Sunday spirit with both teams fielding a good mixture of pensioners and youngsters!

The next match for the Sunday XI is on August 12, when near-neighbours Wistaston are the visitors.
