Audlem's Sunday XI rounded off a successful weekend for the Club's cricketers. They maintained their 100% record as they beat visiting Willenhall, West Midlands, team, Poppyfields, by 27 runs in the 40-overs-a-side friendly match at the Gorse Croft.

John Eve lost the toss again and Audlem were asked to bat first on a fairly damp wicket and outfield. Andy Rothwell and Chris Shenton put on 29 for the first wicket and runs were accumulated regularly with the main contributions from Shenton 33, Danny Thorburn 29, Steve Elsmore 25 and skipper Eve 16 not out. The final total off the allotted overs was 163 for 8 which, given the conditions, was a very good total.

In reply, Poppyfields could muster only 136 with their opener Mike Graham scoring 48 before he was brilliantly caught on the boundary by Paul Thorburn off the bowling of Dave Slack, who was making his Audlem debut. The opposition's total was bolstered by 44 'extras' (their second-top scorer). The bowling was generally very good, with Danny Thorburn, Rothwell and Raj all taking three wickets. It was a very pleasing result as all eleven players contributed with either bat or ball.

The next Sunday friendly match is away at neighbours Aston on June 3rd.
