Sunday 12th May Cricket Report – Audlem v Runcorn CC

Audlem had a good mix of juniors and experienced campaigners on show to take on this week's opponents from Runcorn CC.

Returning skipper. Ollie Banfield managed to win the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat on a pleasant warm afternoon. The decision appeared to be the correct one as openers Michael Burton & Richard Irvine (44 ) gave the hosts a good platform.

Michael particularly was in excellent form unfurling a fine array of shots in his 73 not out. Bertie Hardy coming in at five in the batting order was the next to shine with 32 runs to his name including one huge maximum that cleared the pavilion.

Twelve year old Alfie Hardy ( 8 ) & thirteen year old Freddie Fernyhough ( 6 ) looked composed and confident in their first game of senior cricket as the score rapidly progressed to a defendable total.

Audlem eventually closed their innings on 225 for 9 and were the happier of the two teams at the tea interval.

The visitors reply got off to the worst possible start with both Connor Howard & Mollie Fernyhough taking a wicket in the early overs. With both bowlers on top of their game Runcorn found it difficult to make any headway but valuable knocks from D. Bellfield (25 ) , R, Bazley (30 ) & K. Short ( 49 ) kept the momentum going.

Two wickets from young Freddie Fernyhough and a great piece of fielding from Alfie Hardy to run out the Runcorn skipper and opening bat with a direct throw from the boundary contributed to the eventual victory as the visitors closed on 123 all out in the 31st over.

An excellent bowling and fielding display with the youngsters in the team making a huge contribution.

This week's bowling honours go again to Connor with fine figures of 6 overs 20 runs for 5 wickets , well supported by Mollie who bowled with good pace and accuracy in her opening spell of 5 overs 26 for 1. Freddie claimed 2 wickets for 33 runs in his 5 overs whilst Alfie bowled three accurate overs only conceding 9 runs.

Next week Hodnet and Peplow are the visitors to The Gorse Croft with a 1.00 pm start
