This week's SCYL Under 11s Division 1 opponents for ASC Saints were Wistaston Cubs, newly promoted from Division 2.
Saints started brightly on a beautiful morning at MMU Alsager. Measured passing, usually started at the back, led to a succession of chances but a combination of good goalkeeping, determined defending and luck kept the scores level for the first quarter of the game.
Saints, though, broke the deadlock with a long range effort and quickly added a second a minute later. A little complacency then set in and with Saints bombing forward they were inevitably caught on the break and a neat Wistaston finish brought the score back to 2-1.
That was the score at half time and Saints used the break to both refuel (on Haribo sweets!) and re-organise. The young players were reminded how important it is to keep a good shape and play to the allotted positions. Doing so, would surely bring them a good result.
Next week, Saints play away against Cougars who kicked off their season with a win too.
