The Audlem Music and Arts Festival 2008 started in wonderful style with the children of St James' Primary School – under the direction of Mr Sutton and Mrs Vaughan – presenting a beautiful evening of music in St James Church.

It was a magnificent setting for some 20 very excited children who gave a well appreciated performance of many solo pieces with lots of genuine applause for them. Thereafter the Festival was underway with all the four pubs (three in Audlem and the White Lion at Hankelow) packed to the walls.

Ian Haughey was amongst those watching the children perform. He writes: "A great start to the festival at Audlem St James Church last night. The superb setting was brought to life by the young musicians from Audlem St James' School. For those there, they were treated to a performance, not just talented children playing passages of music, but arrangements that brought out the best of each and every child in that orchestra. We witnessed solo to full orchestra performances that I'm sure both Richard Sutton and Karen Vaughan must have been proud to have presented their students talents.

"The future for music in this area is in safe hands – fantastic and thank you!"
