It was a great shock to the village when Stuart announced at the end of October 2010, that he was retiring.

He had been a firm fixture for 48 years, delivering the milk in all conditions. In all that time he never failed to make his daily deliveries He also acted as a social worker, carer and policeman – all unofficial, but vital to the village, and carried out with tremendous care and feeling.

He made many friends during this time, and he felt Audlem was his village, as Stuart was our milkman.

It came as no surprise when a collection in appreciation was started at Audlem Post Office and Williams' Newsagents.

The villagers of Audlem were most generous, and just before Christmas Dr. Michael Thornton and I visited Stuart to give him the wonderful donations and expressions of appreciation.

Stuart had stated that he did not want a fuss, nor public recognition, of his wonderful service to the village. He was still having difficulty in adusting to to his new daily routine, but he sends his thanks to all, and stated that he has many happy memories of Audlem.

Have a happy and long retirement Stuart.
