Last Saturday night's Garden Party to raise funds for St. Luke's Hospice, which was very kindly hosted by Mike and Deleta Harthern in Monks Lane, proved to be a great success.

Not only was the venue excellent but the weather held fine and the balmy evening allowed the 120 who attended to enjoy the Hog Roast and the various entertainments to the full.

Generous local troubadours serenaded the guests who were able to enjoy a variety of garden games or even a little side bet on the racing ferrets, nine to choose from, although the prize money was of the edible variety, Mr Darling please note. A crescendo of excitement came with a near escape of contestants hot on the heels of the last race.

The evening grossed just under £1500 and many thanks must go, not only to Mike and Deleta, but also the troubadours, Mr. Joseph Heler for the cheese, James Grundy and Anna for the ferrets and all who contributed to its success.
