I recently came across this old illustration of St James, Audlem, in church, and it is interesting from at least two points of view.

First, it shows the gable end of the old building that originally stood upon part of the churchyard itself and partly upon the area delineated by the brick paviours outside Boots pharmacy.

I understand that this building was eventually purchased by the incumbent of the time and left to the church, hence the demarcation between the pavement and the church wall, although the History society may have further information regarding the accuracy of this.

The second point of interest, especially since ADAPT are moving their stall back under the Buttermarket, is that the original use of the building as a centre for the trading of local produce is restored, as it should be.

The market charter was granted to Audlem for this purpose and ADAPT should never have been forced to move. Stand to your rights ADAPT they were granted by the King, before parish councils were ever thought of.
