Sparkling Saints

Yesterday , Saints U11s took on Red Dot FC at the Alex Soccer Centre. The first half saw Saints dominate in terms of possession and chances though it was a struggle to add to the early scrambled goal that came Saints way.

Build up play was super with defenders playing the ball out calmly for midfielders to move on up to the front line. The ball was held up nicely until passing options became available and many chances were created.

Saints hit the woodwork several times (twice in one move!) and the Red Dot goalkeeper played very well. It was thus with some frustration and a little surprise when just before half time, Red Dot broke away under pressure and levelled the score at 1-1. Thankfully, a very well taken goal restored Saints lead just before the half time break.

The half time team talk was an easy one – just keep doing what you are doing and you WILL score plenty! That proved to be the case as 5 goals were added with only one in reply, so Saints ran out 7-2 winners.

ExceptionalThis was an exceptional performance against a decent Red Dot side. Passing was very good, finishing clinical and great link up play was matched by sheer effort. The two main Saints defenders were superb in this game – not only snuffing out any Red Dot chances but almost invariably putting Saints on the attack with accurate and sensible balls out of defence.

The midfield lads worked their socks off, getting up and down the pitch and largely holding the good shape that had been worked on in practice. To round off a great performance, the strikers' finishing was clinical.

This was a great performance in which great skill was matched by equal amounts of effort. Well done young men!

The win further consolidates Saints position at the head of the South Cheshire Youth League U11s Div 1. Unbeaten after 6 games, Saints are 4 points clear (though they have played a game more than most teams).

Next week Saints play bottom team Crewe Terriers (Barony 4 , 11.00am ko)
