Antoinette Sandbach MP has written about wireless smart meters which the government is aiming to have installed free-of-charge in all our homes by 2020. These meters will allow us to monitor our use of electricity by the minute and therefore economise on our consumption. They are a great advantage to the supplier who will no longer need to employ men to read the meters.
However, no mention is made of the well documented evidence of the serious health problems these meters can cause for some people. These include severe headaches, tinnitus and nausea.
As one who has a suffered from electro-magnetic stress since 2000, which is always exacerbated by new technology such as WIFI and new generation smart phones, I dread the proliferation of these smart meters. I have already registered with my provider that we shall not be having a smart meter installed as it is not mandatory to have one.
In 2011, the World Health Organisation IARC classified wireless smart meters radiation as a 2B possible carcinogen. For this reason, the government allows us to choose whether we have one or not. When notification of the installation is received you are not obliged to accept it. All you need to do is inform your provider if you do not want it (or, as in our case, it can be done beforehand).
As smart meters have already started to be installed in the Audlem area, I feel people should be fully informed before choosing to accept their installation.
