Regular readers will recall the story last month about a section of road sinking in Cheshire Street near Daisybank.

A Chatbox comment praised the almost immediate impact this AudlemOnline story had achieved. Cones and traffic lights appeared shortly afterwards and an investigation followed.

Councillors were told at Monday's Audlem Parish Council meeting that it appears the cause is almost certainly a sinking sewer. This meant that resolving the problem was the responsibility of United Utilities.

Hopefully, the water company will be as quick in responding as Cheshire East's highways team were – credit where credit is due – when we first published the story.

Councillors also suggested that United Utilities fix the long-running water leak on the opposite side of the road. With cold weather now with us, a sheet of ice running down Cheshire Street could be dangerous as well as a waste of water.
