There should be a fascinating talk at tonight's meeting of the Audlem District History Society in the Scout & Guide Hall at 7.45pm for an 8.00pm start.

Dr Graham Dodd will give an illustrated talk called The Story of the Shropshire Union Canal. Visitors are welcome and are asked to contribute £2. A cup of tea is available after the talk.

Names will also be taken for the History Society's dinner which will be held on Tuesday evening, 8th December.

Audlem has found this autumn, to its cost, just how important the canal still is to the local economy. The breach in the canal twenty miles to the south has resulted in a dramatic reduction in narrow boats through the village and a knock-on impact on shops, pubs and cafes.
