More on the Shroppie Fly and future plans for the famous canal-side pub.

As regular readers will know, AudlemOnline has run a number of recent stories because of concerns about the pub's future. Last week we were able to confirm that Punch Taverns are planning a "substantial investment" in the pub in the New Year.

A further statement has now arrived from Punch Taverns after we asked them if the Shroppie would remain a traditional pub. Punch Taverns said: "We have spoken to the area manager for the Shroppie Fly and he has advised that we are still actively recruiting.

"We can not comment on the next tenant's menu choice, however we can confirm that it will remain a pub and not become a restaurant."

Good news for all those that recall those lazy hazy days of summer sitting outside the Shroppie, pint in hand, watching the narrow boats and the world go by. And good news too for the many visitors drawn to Audlem and its canal side pubs.
