While drinkers have been packing the Lord Combermere to taste the fine range of cask ales on offer over the Beer Festival weekend others will be sneaking off to the Shroppie Fly where barrels are lined up virtually untapped.

Unknown to many Audlem real ale enthusiasts the Shroppie is offering no fewer than 16 cask ales for drinkers to enjoy today.

Among the fine ales on offer at the Shroppie are

  • Thwaites Wainwright 4.1
  • Weetwood Cheshire Cat 4.0
  • Young's Special 4.5
  • Growler Gladness 4.2
  • Copper Dragon Golden Pippin 3.9
  • Black Sheep 3.8
  • Alton Chained Oak 4.2
  • Brains The Reverend James 4.5

and many more in the canalside pub which is up for a multi-thousand pound refit next month. Not that the pub doesn't look spick and span at the moment as it's under new management and offers a welcoming warm atmosphere.

Bank Holiday Monday also sees music from Hayley Gaftarnict at 1pm so real ale enthusiasts looking for a change of scene should wander down to the canal and tap into some great ales.
