This coming Saturday's Short-ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk includes the northern section of The Sandstone Trail and takes in Helsby Hill with fine views over the Mersey Estuary.

The walk is 61/2 miles long but there is some ascent, a total of 1,254 ft (382m), but the ascent is gentle, and is in multiple sections rather than a continuous bit of uphill. But the climb makes it definitely a 3 Slipper job on the scientific Short-ARS scale of difficulty.

The walk sets off from the Beacon Hill car park (SJ 519766 – OS Explorer 267) near Frodsham and is off B5152 road via Hazlehurst Avenue and Simons Lane near to Frodsham golf course just to the SW of Frodsham.

The walk starts immediately on the Sandstone Trail and heads SW to Foxhill, crosses the B5393 and then to Helsby Hill. It's then SE towards Hamers Wood before rejoining the Sandstone Trail and heading back to Frodsham via Snidley Moor Wood and going round Woodhouse Hill.

It's a normal 9.30am start from Audlem car park but because of the drive and likelihood of the walk taking over 3 hours, it's worth bringing snacks such as sandwiches.

The walk will be led by Andy Davidson and Bob Cartwright.
