Sharing Our Love of Reading and Reaching for the Stars in Our Work!
School has had a busy and exciting feel this week with all of our classes immersing themselves in their new topics.
On my Learning Walks around school I have seen wonderful Superhero writing in Amethyst class, colourful fire and London art work in Pearl and Sapphire classes, some exciting teeth work in Amber class, impressive design work in Ruby class and laptop research skills in Diamond class.
Diamond class hosted the first in a series of Guided Reading sessions for parents this week, with relatives visiting their class during their daily reading time to find out more about how we teach reading in school.
These sessions are designed to give a flavour of the reading skills and development we cover in school and we will be running a parent workshop to further explain some of our teaching approaches in reading next half term.
All of the classes in school will be offering this opportunity to parents and carers during the course of this term!
Our next Active Audlem session for parents, children and staff will take place on Wednesday 28th January at 8.30am. I hope many of you will be able to join us for this.
The FASA team met last Thursday to plan our next fundraising event at school, the Spring Disco. More details about this event will be sent home in due course.
The FASA team are sending home a newsletter summarising some of the wonderful work they do for school today – please look out for it in school bags.
What a great start to the term it has been at ABC. The afterschool clubs have proved popular and the children in ABC's nursery have settled well.
In response to parent requests, ABC are pleased to announce that as from 10th February, the provision will be open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Please contact Lynsey on 01270 669050 or via email at:

Spaces in Clubs
We still have some vacancies in this half term's clubs. EYFS and Key Stage 1 Games Club (Wednesdays), Key Stage 2 Netball (Wednesdays) and Sportscape Football (Mondays – open to all classes) all have spaces. If you would like your child to take part in one of these clubs please contact Miss Cooper in our School Office.
A reminder that this meeting will be held in Amber classroom at 3.30pm on Monday 19th January.
A reminder that this meeting will be held in Mrs Heathcock's classroom at 5.30pm on Thursday 22nd January. I hope Year 6 parents and carers can join us for this important update.
The NEP parents meeting on Tuesday was a helpful reminder of the importance of the role we all have in keeping children safe online.
Our PSCO, Nick Jarvis, and his colleague spoke to parents from across the cluster about the need for us to talk to our children about sites they are accessing and to check our family and privacy settings on all devices we have at home.
They recommended several websites including the CEOP site – www.ceop.gov.uk which has a range of thought provoking and informative video clips and site Thinkuknow site, which has a parent section – www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents
We have several volunteer helpers who come into school to help with classwork throughout the week. In addition to this, we are lucky to have a dedicated Beanstalk Reader in school who supports several children as part of the Beanstalk charity work.
Beanstalk is a national literacy charity that trains and supports volunteers to work in primary
schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading. We are currently looking for further volunteers and would like you to consider volunteering for us.
Alternatively, you may wish to pass our details to someone you know, who might wish to volunteer for us.
As a Beanstalk reading helper you would work with three children for two 30 minute sessions a week, during term-time on a one-to-one basis to help inspire a lifelong love of reading. For more information please contact Linda Savage on 01782 827375 email: WestMidlandsApplications@beanstalkcharity.org
or visit: www.beanstalkcharity.org.uk to apply online.
The Audlem 5A Drama Group will be performing their production of Jack and the Beanstalk from Wednesday 28th January to Saturday 31st January at Audlem Public Hall.
Evening performances begin at 7.30pm and the Saturday matinee is at 2.00pm. Tickets are £6 each and are available from the ticket hotline on 01270 811743.
As part of our continuing development of our school grounds, we have applied to the Woodland trust for hedging trees which we plan to plant in various areas of our outdoor area to create designated areas for learning and play.
Our Outdoor Team in school are busy planning this and if successful in our bid and once finalised, we will be seeking volunteers from our local community to join us for a 'Big Plant Up' Saturday towards the end of this term.
Our provisional date for this is Saturday 28th March – please make a note of this date and spread the word – many hands (and spades!!) will make light work!
I will update you further once we have more details.
